As one of the first alternative legal service providers for flexible legal support, Obelisk entered the legal sector with a clear social-impact mission: to ensure that talented women continued to thrive as lawyers around their caring responsibilities, pioneering flexible and remote working arrangements – long before they were mainstream.

Today we continue to champion new ways of work that open opportunities more fairly for everyone in the law, with one of the largest networks of pre-vetted freelance legal consultants and paralegals.

B corporation, explained

The B Corp movement has focused on for-profit businesses that are purposeful and consider all stakeholders impacted by their services or products. Is it, to date, the world’s only model for socially responsible capitalism.

What is special about the B Corp movement is that it leads with action. Its companies have a direct impact on their workers, communities, and environment. They are encouraged to collaborate and work toward a better world by recognising that some of our challenges are best addressed collectively rather than in isolation.

To be a B Corp, a company needs to pass an 80-point assessment and must adopt a legal framework that explicitly says it will account for all its stakeholders – not solely its shareholders – when making decisions. B-Lab, the non-profit that started the B Corp movement, created a third-party administered certification based on a company’s verified performance on the B Impact Assessment.

This means that we meet the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. This globally recognised accreditation publicly endorses businesses for making an impact beyond profit.

We are proud to be recognised for our commitment to building a more inclusive and sustainable economy. In becoming a Certified B Corporation®, we have joined a community of like-minded businesses. There are just 1500 certified B Corps in the UK (United Kingdom) with the global number standing at just over 6000 in more than 84 countries and over 160 industries.

B Corp Impact Areas

Obelisk as a B Corp

We have locked into our articles our commitment to building a more inclusive and sustainable economy, requiring directors to consider such factors alongside profitability in our decision making. To reach B Corp status, we underwent a lengthy verification process which covered the entirety of our business’s operations across five key impact areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment and Customers.

The certification process is rigorous, with applicants required to reach a benchmark score of over 80 while providing evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices relating to energy supplies, waste and water use, worker compensation, diversity, and corporate transparency.

Just 1% of B Corps certified are in the legal sector and Obelisk Support has become just the 12th legal business to achieve B Corp status.

Our re-certification will be due in 2026.
