Our client is looking for two Junior lawyers or CILEX Authorised practioners for the small claims team
The Small Claims Litigation team will be responsible for managing and resolving pre-claim and Small Claims Court matters across England and Wales, from initial case assessment through to final advocacy at hearing. This includes a rolling caseload of around 25 cases per year (around 10 active litigation cases at any time) but can naturally vary. This role is critical in protecting the client’s interests and ensuring compliance with relevant legal frameworks, particularly in consumer-related disputes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload of pre-claim and Small Claims Court matters, taking ownership from inception to final hearing and resolution.
- Conduct thorough legal research and analysis.
- Draft, review, and submit persuasive legal letters, statements of case, witness statements, and applications to the court.
- Represent the client effectively at Small Claims Court hearings, providing clear and concise advocacy.
- Utilise the case management system for comprehensive case tracking, record-keeping, and reporting.
- Proactively engage with various internal business teams (e.g., Customer Service, Engineering, Sales) to gather necessary information, evidence, and technical details relevant to ongoing cases.
- Handle cases referred from the Client’s large team of customer relationship agents, as well as those escalated directly by dissatisfied customers or their legal representatives.
- Ensure all actions and advice are in strict compliance with legal requirements and the Client’s internal policies and procedures.
Qualifications Skills & Experience:
- Fully qualified lawyer or a CILEX authorised practitioner
- Must hold litigation practice rights as authorised by CILEX Regulation Limited or be a qualified lawyer
- Working knowledge and experience of the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) relevant to small claims, consumer protection law (including sale of goods legislation and product liability laws), and fundamental principles of contract law
- Experience in managing and advocating for cases within the Small Claims Court jurisdiction in England & Wales.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to draft clear and concise documents, and present persuasive legal arguments.
- Highly organised and capable of managing a diverse and demanding workload independently, prioritising tasks effectively to meet deadlines
- Strong ethical and customer focus and commitment to protecting the Client’s reputation.
This role is inside IR35. You are required to contract via an umbrella company. Full time (3/4 days on site at client office in Essex).
