His expertise spans various contracts, including those related to cloud computing, GDPR, data privacy, artificial intelligence, and interactive entertainment. Here he shares his insights on recent experiences as an Obelisk consultant.
Can you describe your work experiences through Obelisk?
It’s been very rewarding. I’ve been given given a steady caseload of really high quality clients- in fact up to my maximum capacity!
What makes your expertise unique?
I have an unusual background mix of IP/IT, music law and interactive entertainment, coupled more recently with data protection, in the last eight years or so. I am able to work across multiple areas- supporting as a fractional GC or on more contract specific issues.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of flexible working as a lawyer?
Being able to work when and where I want and see more of my family.
Most challenging?
When very busy, meeting all of the clients’ deadlines and when very quiet, believing that it will get busy again in the future.
What are your proudest professional and personal achievements so far?
Professionally: being able to hire an assistant to help in busy times.
Personally: having and being able to cope with two boys who push me to the limit at times!
How do you find the right work/life balance?
Trying not to work at weekends and find time for my children, even if I have to work sometimes.
What are your words of advice to other legal consultants?
Make sure you’re good at multi-tasking before you take the role on!
How do you start and end your day?
A green tea and sometimes some exercise, to get it out of the way and set my brain up for the day. There doesn’t seem to be an end to the day, as you can always start something else.
