Be a Consultant FAQs

Why choose Obelisk Support?

We understand not everyone wants to work for one company as a full-time employee. Whether you are looking to balance your professional and personal life, to develop a portfolio career or simply don’t want to be tied to set hours in one place, we are for you. Through established partnerships with blue-chip companies, growing businesses and large law firms, we can deploy you on interesting projects that make the most of your skills and experience.

Why do our legal consultants and paralegals choose to work through us?

We offer outstanding access to projects with dynamic legal teams, both in-house at large global corporations and growing businesses, and in private practice with large City firms.

How does onboarding work?

We will review your CV and be in touch to arrange an interview by telephone or video conference. We’ll also run background and reference checks, ask you to accept our terms & conditions and set you up on our platform so you’re ready to work.

Can I work flexibly as a legal consultant or paralegal?

With our commitment to flexible working, you can set your availability and tell us how you want to work. You have the freedom to take jobs that fit your interest and skills, as well as the hours you want.

Do I need to bring my own clients?

We don’t ask you to bring clients to us or do your own business development, so you can focus on the work that you enjoy.

Where does Obelisk Support rank amongst recruitments agencies?

Obelisk is a legal recruitment agency in that we hire flexible lawyers for roles both permanent and temporary. Join us for access to lawyer work, solicitor employment, paralegal jobs and much more...

What is IR35 for flexible legal workers?

The new IR35 regulations came into effect from the 6th April 2021. These mean that if you work through a personal service company (PSC), you’ll need a Status Determination Statement (SDS) for every engagement with medium-sized and large clients in the private sector and, if work is deemed to fall inside IR35, you’ll need to pay tax at source via an umbrella company. This is the same for clients in the public sector. You are welcome to work with your choice of umbrella partner, as long as they are FCSA-accredited.

Do I need Professional Indemnity Insurance when in role?

As an Obelisk Support legal consultant you are self-employed and work with us on a freelance basis. If you do not have a policy of your own, you will be covered under our indemnity policy.

How does insurance work?

Obelisk believes that the alternative legal services that we provide should offer the same peace of mind as a law firm, and so we hold comprehensive solicitors’ professional indemnity insurance to protect our clients. All of our legal professionals who do not hold their own policies are covered by this insurance. Full details of our insurance can be provided upon request.

How many hours can I work with Obelisk Support?

We offer our lawyers as many or few hours’ work as they are looking for. You are in control of when and where you work.

How does working with Obelisk Support work?

Once you’re set up, we’ll start to match you with projects. Our proprietary software allows us to find the best fit for your skills. When we find the right match, we’ll approach you with potential projects and set up your first work with us.
